Valdivino Alves da Conceição is a Brazilian artist specializing in tapestry, born on July 23, 1955 in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He grew up in a family of modest farmers and started working from an early age to help his family.
At the age of 17, Valdivino moved to São Paulo in search of better economic opportunities. It was there that he began working in a weaving company, where he learned weaving and embroidery techniques. In his free time, he began to create his own tapestry designs, inspired by the landscapes and traditions of his hometown.
In 1985, Valdivino participated in his first tapestry exhibition in São Paulo, which was well received by critics and art collectors. He then decided to devote himself entirely to his art and opened his own weaving workshop.
Over the years, Valdivino has developed a unique style of tapestry, which mixes traditional Brazilian elements with contemporary motifs. It uses a wide variety of natural fibers, such as wool, silk and cotton, as well as recycled materials, such as plastic and paper.
His tapestries are now exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and have won many awards and distinctions. In 1998, he was appointed a member of the Brazilian Academy of Arts and Letters, and in 2003, he received the Brazilian National Culture Prize for his exceptional contribution to the art of tapestry.
Valdivino is also very involved in the promotion of art and culture in his community. He created a cultural center in São Paulo, which offers weaving courses and other artistic activities to young people in the region. He has also organized many exhibitions and cultural events in his hometown.
